119 Auction Preview: Feeding Frenzy

Live auctions have become a thing of the past since the outbreak of Covid-19. In New York City, which reopened more slowly despite the easing of lockdown measures elsewhere in the country, the March Asian Art sales previously delayed to June have been further postponed to the third quarter. Live sales in Hong Kong—with the major houses competing concurrently in July, in a rare occurrence—may be the first sign of a return to normalcy, although entry restrictions and compulsory quarantines for visitors to the Special Administrative Region could lead to more absentee, phone, and online bidding.
